Brighton man charged with firearms offences

Police have charged a 52-year-old Brighton man with several firearms offences following a search of his residence yesterday.

During the search police located and seized several illegal firearms including an unregistered revolver with the serial numbers removed, a prohibited semi-automatic rifle, an excessive amount of reloading powder, and several silencers.

Police also located a number of firearms at the premises that were incorrectly stored.

The man was charged with multiple firearms related offences.

He was bailed to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Members of the community are reminded that Tasmania Police has a permanent firearms amnesty where illegal or unwanted firearms can be surrendered to a police station without fear of prosecution. Anyone wishing to use the amnesty must contact the police station before attending to advise them of the matter.

Anyone with information in relation to illegal firearms is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au
