Fatal crash on Bass Highway, Sassafras

A 54-year-old man from Devonport has died following a two vehicle crash on the Bass Highway at Sassafras yesterday evening.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene near Parramatta Creek about 5.30pm on Thursday, 13 February 2020.

The man was driving a northbound white 2018 Nissan Navara when the vehicle crossed on to the wrong side of the road shortly before colliding with a white 2012 Toyota Hilux travelling south.

The 44-year-old man driving the Hilux was taken to hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with serious injuries. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

The highway was closed for about five hours while investigations were carried out. Police would like to thank motorists for their patience during this time.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those involved in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who saw the vehicles beforehand, should contact police on 131444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au
