Man charged with evade police in Sorell

A 19 year old male has today been charged with evading police, motor vehicle stealing and other related driving charges.

The male was observed driving a stolen vehicle in the early hours of the morning and after driving at a police vehicle, subsequently evaded police.

The stolen vehicle was involved in two separate crashes later in the day, where it collided with parked vehicles.

At about 3pm as a result of information received a number of police units from Sorell and the Police Helicopter conducted an extensive search of the Sorell town ship for the stolen vehicle.

As a result the 19 year old male was located on foot after dumping the stolen motor vehicle and was subsequently arrested without incident and detained.

Senior Sergeant Hodge stated “Tasmania Police would like to thank the public for the assistance provided to police. Tasmania Police will not tolerate these types of offences and the manner of driving that places the police and the members of our community at risk. This male and other offenders who choose to commit these offences will be held accountable and charged.”

Anyone who observed a light blue Toyota Corolla sedan driving in a dangerous or erratic manner during the day is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
