The Commissioner of Police, Darren Hine, is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Commander within the ranks of Tasmania Police.

“I congratulate Commander Jason Elmer on his promotion to the rank of Commander within Tasmania Police today,” said Commissioner Hine.

Officers at the rank of Commander provide executive leadership and direction, ensuring the delivery of quality policing and emergency management services to the community.

“Commander Elmer has a wealth of strategic planning, emergency management, and tactical command experience, with a proven ability to apply contemporary practices to innovatively achieve our organisation’s goals,” said Commissioner Hine.

“He is a strategic and analytical leader with sound communication skills who cultivates cohesive, collaborative and productive work environments.”

Commander Elmer has extensive experience acting in Commander positions, most recently in Education and Training since May 2021.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, Commander Elmer was heavily involved in the established of the first State Emergency Coordination Centre.

“Commander Elmer has proven experience working in a senior management environment, capably accepting new challenges, and fostering collaborative policing.”

Commander Elmer is promoted to the position of Commander, Education and Training, effective immediately.
