Police investigate arson at Box Hill Road, Claremont
Detectives and forensic investigators remain at the scene of an arson incident in Claremont after a fire caused minor damage to the property overnight.
Tasmania Fire Service responded to a report of a structure fire at 131 Box Hill Road, Claremont about 12.30am this morning (Monday 23 July 201). Upon arrival, the residence was filled with smoke as a result of a fire smouldering inside. Tasmania Fire Service quickly extinguished the blaze.
Investigations by Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police have confirmed the fire was deliberately lit. The residence was vacant at the time of the incident and as a result, minor damage was caused to the laundry and upstairs bedroom.
Members from Glenorchy Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blaze and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the fire.
Police would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen three men close to the residence at the time. One of the men was wearing a baseball cap and a second, a dark coloured hooded jumper.
Members from Bridgewater Criminal Investigation Branch are also investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspicious fire that was started at 3 Newbury Place in Bridgewater on Saturday 21 July 2018 around 2.20pm.
Investigations by Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police have confirmed that the fire was deliberately lit with extensive damage being caused to the interior of the residence. No one was inside the residence at the time of the blaze.
Investigations are still being conducted in relation to the targeted arson committed at 5/7 Aldridge Court, Claremont on 17 July 2018.
None of the incidents appear to be linked.
“Tasmania Police urge members of the public to come forward with any information regarding these incidents – we rely heavily on the community for information and often information that you may think is not relevant could be the one piece of information that identifies the people responsible” Det Sgt Ben Duffey said.
