Police investigating report of child approached in New Town

Police are investigating a report that a child was approached by a man in the New Town area yesterday morning.

The child reported that a man they didn’t know approached them on Cross Street near the Jackman and McRoss Bakery between 7.30-8am.

The man was in a grey sedan, he had a beard, and he was wearing a black hooded jumper.

Anyone who may have information or witnessed the incident is asked to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.

With all students now back at school, police encourage parents to talk about personal safety with their children:

  • Walk with friends if you can.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Report any suspicious behaviour to the school, parents or police.
