Ten people charged with drug and property offences – Launceston

Launceston police have charged six people with drug trafficking, two with minor drug offences, and two with significant burglary and stealing offences across the Northern suburbs over the last three weeks.

“Dedicated investigative work by Launceston CIB over the last three weeks has resulted in a number of people being charged with drug trafficking and a large quantity of drugs being seized and removed from our community,” said Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox.

“Significantly, police have seized around half a kilo of crystal methamphetamine (ice) valued at $140,000; around 1,000 MDMA pills valued at $30,000; around 50grams of heroin valued at $25,000; and a quantity of steroids and cannabis.

As a result of the seizures, police have laid charges of trafficking a controlled substance against a:

  • 37-year-old West Launceston man who was remanded in custody
  • 37-year-old Melbourne man who was remanded in custody
  • 32-year-old George Town man who was remanded in custody
  • 23-year-old Burnie woman
  • 21-year-old Norwood man
  • 39-year-old St Leonards man.

“Launceston police have also recovered a significant amount of stolen property over the last month including stolen firearms, a motorboat, motorcycles, power tools, bicycles, furniture, and stolen fuel cards that had been used to illegally obtained a significant amount of fuel.

“As a result, two people have been charged with a number of crimes including possessing stolen property, business burglary, motor vehicle burglary, stealing, dealing with the proceeds of crime, and breaching bail.”
