Vehicles Damaged During Incidents in Berriedale

Police at Glenorchy are investigating two incidents during the early hours of Christmas Day in which Molotov cocktails were thrown at parked vehicles in Berriedale.

Shortly before 2:00am on Sunday 25 December, police were called to Maroni Road where they identified three vehicles which appeared to have been targeted.

Around 4:30am, officers again responded to reports of another vehicle on Maroni Road which had been targeted in a separate but related incident.

No persons were injured during the incidents and the resulting fires were rapidly extinguished by witnesses, with vehicles sustaining only minor damage.

As a result of investigations, a 58 year old New Norfolk man was arrested and charged with Unlawfully setting fire to property. The man has been detained and will appear before an out of hours sitting in the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Residents in the surrounding areas are being asked to review any available CCTV footage around the time of the incidents.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Glenorchy CIB on 131 444 or information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
